  • Hagia Sophia Mosque: Hagia Sophia is a truly incredible building with a long and fascinating history. It started out as a church way back in the year 537 AD in the city of Constantinople, which is now called Istanbul. Imagine, that's over 1,500 years ago! Originally, it was built as a Christian church called Hagia Sophia, which means "Holy Wisdom" in Greek. It was the biggest church in the whole wide world at the time, and people traveled from far and wide just to see it. Inside, the church was filled with beautiful mosaics, marble columns, and stunning decorations. But things changed over the centuries. In the year 1453, the city of Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Empire, and Hagia Sophia became a mosque. The Ottomans added some new things, like minarets and beautiful Islamic calligraphy. Then, in 1935, something really interesting happened.

  • The government of Turkey decided to turn Hagia Sophia into a museum. That means it's a place where people can go to learn about history and see all the amazing things inside. When you visit Hagia Sophia today, you can still see all the beautiful decorations from both its Christian and Muslim past. There's a huge dome that seems to float above your head, and the sunlight streams in through big windows, making everything glow. One of the most famous things in Hagia Sophia is a giant mosaic of Jesus Christ, surrounded by his mother Mary, angels, and lots of other important people. It's really old, but still so beautiful!
